My images in a Museum in Nuremberg

 In October 2022, I was contacted by Dr. des. Susanne Thürigen, a historian of science from the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, Germany. She expressed interest in using micro-CT images of certain teeth that I had developed to be displayed in the museum's permanent exhibition on crafts and medicine. Now, the images of the root canal anatomy system, which was co-developed by myself, Frank Paqué, and Holm Reuver, are permanently on display in the Spotlight-exhibition Danger Zone in Nuremberg. It's truly an exciting achievement!

The Root Canal Anatomy Project: Four Years Online

Begun formally in 2011, The Root Canal Anatomy Project completed 4 years online on 5th of March. This blog was developed in the Laboratory of Endodontics of Ribeirao Preto Dental School - University of Sao Paulo - with noncommercial and educational purposes. During this period, the blog was visited by people from 181 different countries with more than 550,000 page views. The videos were watched more that 200,000 times and the material was downloaded more than 25,000 times. Considering that root canal anatomy is a very specific subject in the endodontic field, we believe that the blog is achieving its goals. Thank you for your support and stay tuned for updates.

A New MicroCT-Based Educational Resource

Realistic visualization by volume rendering

The volume rendering program CTvox (Brucker-MicroCT) for mobiles under iOS is a volume rendering app that runs on Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod. CTVox displays set of reconstructed slices as a realistic 3D object with intuitive navigation and manipulation of both object and camera, a flexible clipping tool to produce cut-away views, background selection including custom scenery and an interactive transfer function control to adjust colors and transparency. A "flight recorder" function allows fast creation of "fly around" and "fly through" animations based on the selection of several key frames with automatic interpolation in between. Imaging possibilities include lighting, shadows and stereo viewing.

This app is available free of charge through the App Store.

The app's manual is available as a PDF, both for the iPad and the iPhone/iPod versions.

Volume data for the CTvox app is stored in a VXM file. A VXM file contains both the volume data and an associated transfer function. Now, you will be able to rotate, cut, color, create movies, and whatever you wanted, in real-time, from real 3D datasets of all teeth acquired using micro-CT technology!

Impressions from Brucker MicroCT Meeting 2013

The annual Micro-CT User Meeting took place in Hasselt / Belgium from the 16th till the 18th of April at Radisson Blu Hotel and Conference Center.

33 abstracts from 22 countries have been accepted for oral presentation. 

I was so proud to be the only dentist and the only researcher from Latin American in the oral session.
This study was developed during the PhD program at the Department of Endodontics of the Dental School of Ribeirao Preto, University of Sao Paulo, under the supervision of Prof. Sousa Neto.
